Khalaktyrsky beach
Khalaktyrsky beach
Khalaktyrsky beach is a wide coastal strip bordering the Pacific ocean, covered with pure black sand. It stretches for 30 km along the Eastern coast of Kamchatka. Such beaches are absolutely unique and extremely rare. Black sand is nothing but a frozen volcanic lava. Once upon a time, its hot stream, sweeping away everything on its way, reached the shore, fell into the cold waters of the Pacific ocean and froze. Water, wind and time gradually shattered it to pieces and turned into fine sand.
